Hockney Joiners
What are they and what is the technique?
In the 1880s, David Hockney began to produce photo collages; he called these joiners. By using Polaroid snaps of one image, he arranged a composite image. He first started off with swimming pool paintings but one of his first ones ever was of his mother. His goal was to discuss the way the human vision works- in many ways. In fact, Hockney joiners were discovered accidentally when he was taking shots of his living room and gluing them together, discovering they made up a composition on their own.
